1. About us
expanseElectronics® Ltd is a private limited company registered in England and Wales. Our company number, registered office, and contact details are at the bottom of this page.
2. The contract
When you place an order through our store, you are making an offer to buy the goods listed at the prices stated. The contract is formed when we send you an order-confirmation email. We reserve the right to decline an order — for example if a product is mispriced, out of stock, or if we suspect fraud — in which case we will refund any payment in full.
3. Pricing
All prices are in GBP (£) and include UK VAT at 20%. expanseElectronics® Ltd is VAT-registered (VAT no. GB443246507). What you see is what you pay (plus any shipping you choose) — the VAT element is itemised on your receipt. Orders shipped outside the United Kingdom are zero-rated for VAT as exports; you may be liable for import duties/taxes in the destination country. Prices may change at any time, but the price you pay is the price displayed when you place your order. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and shown to you before you pay.
If we discover an obvious pricing error after you have ordered (for example a £100 item listed at £1), we will contact you to confirm whether you'd like to proceed at the correct price or cancel the order for a full refund.
4. Discount codes
From time to time we may issue discount codes that can be applied at checkout. Each code is subject to its own terms — for example a minimum order value, a maximum number of redemptions, or an expiry date. Codes have no cash value, cannot be combined with other offers unless we say so, and we may withdraw or invalidate a code at any time (existing orders that have already used it are unaffected). One code per order.
If you start an order but don't complete it, we may email you a one-off discount code for that specific order — typically 10% off, single use, with a short expiry (7 days). The same general rules above apply, and the code only works in the email recipient's checkout. How we decide who to email and how to stop receiving these emails is covered in our Privacy Policy.
5. Payment
Payment is taken at checkout via Stripe, our payment processor. We accept the cards and wallets Stripe supports for UK transactions, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link. Your card details are entered directly into a Stripe-hosted form embedded on our checkout page — we never see or store them. Your card is charged when you place the order.
If you have an account with us and ticked the option to save your card at checkout, the card stays with Stripe and your account holds a reference to it (typically the brand and last 4 digits) so you can re-use it next time. You can remove saved cards from the "Payment methods" tab of your account at any time, or by emailing [email protected].
5a. Accounts
An expanseElectronics account is optional — you can buy from the store as a guest and use the "Email me my orders" magic-link flow to see your order history. If you do create an account:
- You're responsible for keeping your password confidential. Pick something that's hard to guess and that you don't use elsewhere. We never need to know it; we only ever store a one-way hash of it.
- If you think your account has been accessed without your permission, change your password (via the "forgot your password" flow if needed) and email us so we can revoke any active sessions.
- We may suspend or close an account that we reasonably believe is being used for fraud, chargeback abuse, or to evade these Terms. We will tell you (where it's safe and lawful to do so) and explain why.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will delete your account data within a week. Order records are kept for 7 years for HMRC compliance — see our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown of what we keep and for how long.
5b. Supporter subscriptions, store credit & rewards
You can choose to support expanseElectronics from the Support page, either with a one-off contribution or a recurring monthly subscription (currently £5/month). Supporting is voluntary and separate from buying products — a contribution is not a purchase of goods and is non-refundable except where required by law.
- Billing & renewal. Monthly support is billed through Stripe and renews automatically each month until you cancel. You must be signed in to subscribe, so it ties to your account.
- Cancelling. You can cancel any time from the "Support" tab of your account (or by emailing us). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid month — you keep your supporter benefits until then, and we don't refund the part-month.
- 5% supporter discount. While your subscription is active you get 5% off store orders, applied automatically at checkout. It does not stack with promotion codes — whichever is larger applies. It stops when your subscription ends.
- Store credit. Active monthly supporters earn £1.50 of store credit per month, which is applied automatically against future orders at checkout. Store credit has no cash value, is tied to your account, is not transferable or exchangeable for cash, and cannot be refunded. Credit you've already earned remains usable if you cancel; you simply stop earning more. We may correct balances affected by error, fraud, or chargebacks.
- Milestone rewards. Reaching certain durations of continuous support unlocks rewards — currently a single-use 20% discount code after 3 months (valid 7 days) and a free-t-shirt code after 6 months (you cover postage). Cancelling resets your progress toward future milestones. Reward codes are single-use, tied to your account, subject to the general discount-code rules in section 4, and have no cash value.
- We may change the supporter price, benefits, or reward structure for the future; changes won't reduce benefits you've already earned, and material changes to an active subscription's price will be notified in advance.
6. Shipping & delivery
We currently ship to United Kingdom addresses only. Most orders are dispatched within two working days; you'll receive a tracking link by email once the package is on its way. Delivery times depend on your location and the carrier — see the shipping options at checkout for current estimates. If you're outside the UK and would like to order, email [email protected] and we'll see what we can arrange.
Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery — i.e. once the package has been handed over to you (or your nominated address). Title to the goods passes to you when we receive payment in full.
If a package arrives damaged or doesn't arrive at all, see our Returns Policy for the claims process and timeframes.
7. Pre-orders
Some products are offered for pre-order before they are in stock. When you pre-order, we charge your card immediately to lock in the listed price and reserve a unit from the upcoming production run. If the estimated dispatch date slips materially, we'll email you with the new estimate and you'll have the option to wait or cancel for a full refund. Your statutory right to cancel as a consumer (see section 8) starts from the day the goods are delivered, not from the date of order.
8. Your right to cancel (consumer customers)
If you are a consumer (i.e. ordering for personal, non-business use), you have a statutory right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to cancel your order without giving a reason within 14 days of the day you receive the goods. To exercise this right, email [email protected] with your order number; we'll send you the return address and a unique barcode for the package.
You then have a further 14 days to send the goods back. We'll refund you (including the original standard delivery cost) within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or of receiving evidence that you've sent them, whichever is sooner. The return shipping is at your cost.
The right to cancel does not apply to:
- Goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised
- Sealed goods that have been unsealed after delivery and are not suitable for return for health or hygiene reasons
(See our Returns Policy for the full details on returns, including for damaged or defective items.)
9. Your statutory rights
As a consumer you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — including that goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If they're not, you have the right to a refund within 30 days, or repair / replacement after that, or a price reduction or final-right refund if repair / replacement isn't possible. Nothing in these terms removes or restricts those rights.
10. Warranty
Beyond your statutory rights, our products are covered against manufacturing defects for 12 months from the date of delivery. If a product develops a fault during that period that is not the result of misuse, modification, or accidental damage, we will repair or replace it at our discretion. Contact [email protected] with your order number and a description of the fault.
The warranty does not cover:
- Damage from misuse, accidents, or installation outside specification
- Modification of the firmware or hardware in ways not documented in our wiki or instructions
- Wear-and-tear, cosmetic damage, or fair-use deterioration
- Issues caused by third-party software, controllers, or accessories
10a. Customer reviews
If you submit a review of one of our products through the form on the product page, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish it (in full or excerpted) on the product page, in marketing material, and on our social media, alongside the display name you chose and a "verified buyer" badge if your order ID matches. We moderate every submission before publishing and may reject or edit reviews that contain unlawful content, personal data of others, abuse, or material we believe is fake. We do not pay for reviews, do not offer incentives for positive reviews, and do not selectively suppress critical ones — every published review is the customer's own words.
You can ask us to remove your published review at any time by emailing [email protected] from the email address you used to submit it.
11. Use of our products
Our firmware and accompanying software are licensed, not sold, and may be subject to open-source licence terms (e.g. GPL-3.0 for the dualETH-PixelControl firmware). You retain the right to receive corresponding source code under the terms of those licences. Where source is available, links are provided in the relevant product documentation.
You agree not to use our products in safety-critical applications (life-support, aviation, nuclear, etc.) where a fault could cause death, personal injury, or significant property damage.
12. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (c) any matter for which it would be illegal for us to limit or exclude liability under English law; or (d) your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to the above, our total liability to you in connection with any order is limited to the price you paid for the goods. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of business, or loss of data arising from the use or inability to use our products.
13. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control — for example carrier strikes, supply-chain disruption, internet outages, power outages, or government action. If such circumstances continue for more than 30 days, either party may cancel the affected order; we will refund any payment for goods not yet shipped.
14. Privacy
How we handle your personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the version in force on the date the order is confirmed; later changes do not affect orders already placed.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms, and any contract formed under them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales — except where you are a consumer resident in another part of the United Kingdom, in which case you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction.
17. Contact
